This
was such a fun and simple gardening project!
The basis of
the
pond is a 128 gallon plastic liner buried in the sand and
gravel
patio that we built last year. Because
the surrounding
soil
is all sand, I just used containers of plants around the pond
to give
it a tropical feeling. The
rim of the plastic pond
is hidden
by the large flat rocks which overhang the edges.
There
are three fish in the pond - two orange, black, and
white
shubunkin and a black and silver koi.
The statue of the boy on the fish is all that's left of a concrete fountain we had years ago. We think he adds a classical touch to the pond. Behind him is a rubber plant and on either side are Autumn Joy sedum which will be planted in the ground this fall. The waterlilies aren't blooming yet, but I have high hopes when I look at those huge lily pads. |
This photo was taken a little later in the season from the first photo - things are growing! |
This is one of two whimsical little turtle statues that are almost hidden around the edge of the pond under the overhanging lemon balm. It's fun when people discover them. Mom contributed a "turtle crossing" sign! |
"The
heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handiwork."
I feel closer to my Creator when I'm tending my garden. |
